RETREET redefines disaster relief by engaging communities to replant lost trees.
SUNDAY SHOW & TELL vol.71
As Saudi airstrikes in Yemen lead to continuing fuel shortages across the country, many have taken to two wheels for transportation. "Let's ride a bike" was organized by young women as a group ride across the capital, much to the chagrin of the country's most conservative element. In fact, some find the idea so incredulous they insist pictures, like the one below, must be Photoshopped. Read more about this powerful movement!
Do you use the expression "it's like riding a bike" to refer to something that is impossible to forget once learned? Have you ever considered what it takes for your mind to master that art? In this amazing thought experiment, people have to unlearn how to ride a regular bicycle in order to ride this one. Who wouldn't want to take a stab at that?
Last weekend, nearly 45,000 volunteers set a new Guinness World Record for single-day reforestation, planting 647,250 saplings in more than 220 species all across Ecuador. Go trees!
SUNDAY SHOW & TELL vol.63
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!
"Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives women a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel...the picture of free, untrammeled womanhood."
- Susan B. Anthony
This week on Sunday Show & Tell, we start with a virtual forest walk. Spend your evening on a stroll though some magical and soothing locales from around the world.
Next, take a trip underground to Mega Cavern, a spelunking mountain bikers ultimate paradise right outside of Louisville, KY. Formerly a crushed stone mine, this 17-mile long, 320,000 square foot venue is known simply as THE MINE.
Finally, in the all senses of the word, is the burial pod that allows you to become the tree of your choosing. Imagine replacing cemeteries with spiritual forests where each tree physically represents a person. An interesting idea...what do you think?
