HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!

"Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives women a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel...the picture of free, untrammeled womanhood."

- Susan B. Anthony

This week on Sunday Show & Tell, we start with a virtual forest walk. Spend your evening on a stroll though some magical and soothing locales from around the world.

Next, take a trip underground to Mega Cavern, a spelunking mountain bikers ultimate paradise right outside of Louisville, KY. Formerly a crushed stone mine, this 17-mile long, 320,000 square foot venue is known simply as THE MINE.

Finally, in the all senses of the word, is the burial pod that allows you to become the tree of your choosing. Imagine replacing cemeteries with spiritual forests where each tree physically represents a person. An interesting idea...what do you think?

If you were to step back in time 100 years, the streets of NYC would be noticeably barren of trees. As the population grew by 65% and more and taller buildings jutted towards the sky, leafy green protrusions also spread across the cityscape. Take a look at some amazing before and after shots that truly show what a difference a tree makes!

As the holidays approach, stories abound of wonderful organizations holding bike giveaways for needy children. Do a quick search! One in particular is especially inspiring. For years, The Bicycle Man gave hundreds of children in the Fayetteville area of North Carolina happiness on two wheels. Now, his widow carries on his legacy.

Need to take a break for all the merriment? Enjoy a virtual stroll through some of the most gorgeous paths on the planet. Even better, go for a walk and soak in the subtle beauty of your own neighborhood!

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Perhaps the best holiday of all, it is a day to remember and appreciate the gifts, both big and small, that life has bestowed upon us. We hope you were able to enjoy delicious food and stimulating conversation with family and friends.

Here at RETREET, we are most thankful for all of the folks who have helped us in any way to plant more trees for more people over the past three years. Our community is our heart. THANK YOU for being a part of it.

Now that you're most likely stuffed full of leftovers (we are!) and enjoying the fleeting few hours left in your holiday weekend, it's time to enjoy SS&T.

Lilly Yokoi, a member of one of Japan's most famous entertainment families, is known as the Ballerina on the Golden Bicycle. Learn why by clicking the link. Her tricks are unparalleled.

And finally, marvel at the reintroduction of the dandy horse, one of the precursors to the bicycle. Looks like a fun way to burn some of those extra calories!

Take a virtual forest bath with images of some of the most beautiful trees on Earth. Then, check out a proposal from the George Mason University 2014 Cameron Rian Hays Outside the Box Competition that presents a vision for protected intersections for bicyclists. What do you think? Finally, meet Akira Miyawaki, the director of the Japanese Center for International Studies in Ecology, who is taking an all-natural approach to disaster prevention: growing a 40 million tree Great Wall of Forest.
